The Student Policies and Regulations Handbook ("Handbook") integrates the University of California Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students ("Policies") available on the Web at http://policy.ucop.edu/doc/2710518/PACAOS-11 and Santa Cruz campus implementing regulations applying to campus activities, organizations, and students. To distinguish between the UC Policies and University of California Santa Cruz Regulations ("Regulations"), University of California Santa Cruz Regulations are printed in bold type. Effective June 29, 2016, this publication incorporates revisions made during the last academic year, and supersedes all documents of the same title published previously.
Members of the university community may propose amendments to these Policies and Regulations by submitting proposals to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards for referral to the chancellor's advisory committee on campus regulations. The committee makes periodic recommendations to the president or the chancellor. (See Sections 13.30, 13.31 and 13.40.) Proposals may be sent via email to conduct@ucsc.edu or by mail to Student Conduct and Community Standards, 245 Hahn, 1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95064. Students are invited to participate in the student conduct process starting with an emailed invitation to the Incident Review Meeting where they will have the opportunity to learn more about their student rights, the student conduct process, and discuss the alleged incident in detail. |

This is the process from receipt of the initial incident report (IR) through sending the Incident Review Outcome in which the Student Conduct Specialist gathers as much information as possible in order to determine whether or not the student is responsible for the alleged policy violation(s). Information in all forms and from all sources is considered. Following the IR, the most common and detailed information comes via student meetings or Incident Review Meetings. |
Reminder of Campus Community Agreement |
Admonishment |
When a Student Conduct Specialist has determined there is not preponderance of evidence for the alleged policy violation(s) or if preponderance is reached but the alleged policy violation(s) is considered to be minor in nature and better served with an informal reminder, the Student Conduct Specialist will issue a Reminder of Campus Community Agreement. In this letter, students are reminded of the policies, expectations, and responsibilities that come with the opportunity to live on campus in University-sponsored housing. Receiving one of these letters means that a student is still in good conduct standing and no further action on the student’s part for the student conduct process is required. |

At the conclusion of the Information Gathering period, if a Student Conduct Specialist determines that a student is responsible for one or more of the alleged policy violations, they will send an Incident Review Outcome letter notifying the student of several key things including 1.) what policy(ies) the student has been found responsible for, 2.) the rationale for how the Student Conduct Specialist came to their decision including what information was considered and how it was used, 3.) the Student Conduct Outcome(s) the Student Conduct Specialist has implemented. |

At the conclusion of the information gathering process, if a Student Conduct Specialist finds a student responsible for one or more policy violations, they may decide that specific Student Conduct Outcomes are necessary. These may come in the form administrative (status-based) or educational (action-based) outcomes. Student Conduct Specialists will try to incorporate the student’s input if given and applicable before deciding on these outcomes. |
