Quarry Amphitheater Artist Call

The Quarry Amphitheater Restoration Group, SUA & the UCSC Print Media Department invites all student artists to submit their designs for a commemorative poster highlighting the grand opening of the Quarry Amphitheater facility. Opening it’s doors Fall 2017, the Quarry Amphitheater, UCSC’s new premier events facility, will be host to an inaugural day-long music festival. This poster design will be used be used to commemorate the grand opening of the Quarry Amphitheater and the subsequent music festival.

 We invite artists to propose original work in the tradition of music and concert silk-screen rock art. Please click this link for a number of inspiration pieces that one represents what we are seeking.

 
TIMELINE: 

May 8th to May 31st: Final day for submissions

Contact winners by June 6th

PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a portrait vertical design

  • Must include between 6-9 colors ( fluorescent and metallic colors are welcome)

  • Must contain the following wording;

    • Event title “QUARRY AMPHITHEATER GRAND OPENING CONCERT”

    • Event date “SATURDAY OCTOBER 7TH

  • Design must allow space for artist line up (5-6 artist) that will be announced announced after

  • Proposals can be submitted as either :
  1. Adobe illustrator file (.ai): 22x28in sent to QAPOSTERS@gmail.com
  2. Hand-drawn paper design: (21 x 16 and a 1/2in ) can be dropped of at at the Dean of Students office in 245 Hahn Student Services

Design composition should allow for 30-35% of blank surface for names of invited musicians/bands of venue. This information will be printed later. See example:

Design to be completed by the end of Spring Quarter and will be printed at Baskins Visual Arts Print Media studio throughout early June and early September. Awarded student must agree to provide up to 24 hours of assistance during studio production of print.

Design proposals can be submitted either as original six to eight color hand drawn artwork on paper, reduced to a 16" x 21" format. Illustrator files may also be submitted at original size 20" x 26". Works on paper can be dropped off at 245 Hahn Student Services.

Chosen artist is expected to commit to the following:

  • 25 hrs of hours with aid of preparation of silk-screen, starting from June 12th to June 19thStudent will learn hands on experience of screen printing media.

  • Students will pass on copyrights to UCSC
