CalFresh Application Assistance

What is CalFresh?

CalFresh, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program SNAP, is a nutrition program that can help you stretch your monthly budget! CalFresh can provide eligible students with the ability to buy and eat nutritious and healthy foods!

CalFresh benefits are pre-loaded monthly into an EBT card that can be used like a debit card at most major chain grocery stores, like Trader Joe’s, Safeway, and Costco. It can also be used at some smaller stores, and farmers’ markets.

Application Assistance

What to expect from a virtual appointment:

  • You will have a one-on-one conversation with a Calfresh Navigator from Second Harvest Food Bank.
  • The Navigators will give you a rundown of the program and will assist you with the application process
  • Our goal is to help you apply by walking you through the application, answering general CalFresh related questions, and assist with document submission

If you would like a certified CalFresh Buddy from Second Harvest Food Bank to walk you through the application and document submission process, you can sign-up for an appointment: calfresh@ucsc.edu

Eligible individuals can apply on their own through the student-friendly CalFresh website: http://www.getcalfresh.org/s/shfb*

*Just in case you need to review your application and/or ask for assistance or advocacy services, please select ‘Yes’ when asked for permission to save your contact information when completing this form (see the prompt at the right).
